Shaqiri wants to force into Bayern first team

The versatile Swiss attacker is aiming to put himself in contention for the starting XI under new boss Pep Guardiola and praised the Spaniard's training methods
Bayern Munich winger Xherdan Shaqiri is hopeful of enjoying a breakthrough year under new coach Pep Guardiola.

The 21-year-old hit a second-half hat-trick on Friday to set die Roten on their way to a comfortable 13-0 victory to lift the Paulaner Cup and he is hopeful such form will lead to greater first-team opportunities next term.

"It was my first friendly match after vacation and we all had a lot of fun. I was particularly keen to be playing again at last, and I think it was obvious to everyone watching," the Switzerland international told the club's official website.

"I played a lot of games last season, but obviously I'm now looking to take the next step. I want to be starting the important matches too.

"Last year was superb because absolutely everything worked out. We have the potential for another superb year."

The Bavarians made headlines for their €37 million swoop for Mario Gotze, but Shaqiri is unfazed, insisting they can co-exist: "It's not a problem, because we could play together. At the end of the day, it's the coach’s decision."

Captain Philipp Lahm lauded the training expertise Guardiola brought to the mix and Shaqiri also took time to pay tribute to how his new coach was helping him progress as a player.

"I really like his [Guardiola's] training sessions," he concluded. "I like the football we're playing. After all, I’m a fan of attacking play.

"You do have to think a bit and listen hard to make sure you do the training right. We have to be very focused."

Casillas to become a father for first time

The Spain international and his partner Sara Carbonero have revealed they are set to become parents, with the reporter believed to be 13 weeks pregnant
Spain and Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas is set to become a father for the first time, he has confirmed.

The 32-year-old and his partner Sara Carbonero, who is a journalist for Tele 5, revealed the news on Saturday on their way back from the Confederations Cup in Brazil.

Casillas, who fell out of favour at Madrid last season, played in the final, in which Spain lost 3-0 to the hosts. Miss Carbonero, meanwhile, was out in Brazil on media duties covering the tournament.

"We are very happy," Casillas told reporters at Barajas Airport, Madrid.

The couple met back in February 2010 and it is reported that Casillas' girlfriend is 13 weeks pregnant.

The pair will now go on holiday to an unknown destination.

Klopp: Champions League win would have caused problems

The German was more than gracious about losing Europe's premier club competition to rivals Bayern Munich and instead suggested it would serve as a springboard to more success
Borussia Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp is upbeat about his side's Champions League final defeat in May and wants to use losing to Bayern Munich as motivation heading into the new season.

The Schwarzgelben reached the final hoping to replicate their win in 1997, but ultimately surrendered 2-1 at Wembley to Jupp Heynckes' Bavarians.

However, Klopp has passed off the defeat as unfinished business, insisting the team are now hungrier than ever to achieve success and hinted that he has a change in tactics in store for his BVB squad.

"I was not as depressed [from BVB's Champions League defeat] as you might have guessed. A win would have brought other problems," the 46-year-old revealed to Bild.

"Then we would have won recently all that there is to win. Therefore, it is actually not so bad that it did not work the first time.

"Some people think that was our only chance [in the Champions League]. Others say we can do it again soon. We want to strive to another final experience one time or another.

"When everything is finally clear [in pre-season], we will change up the system a bit. Ideally, our style will change so that we concede fewer goals."

The Signal Iduna Park outfit have already snapped up striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Saint-Etienne and defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos from Werder Bremen this summer to boost their ranks.

Ancelotti: “I love football so it is a dream to coach Real Madrid”

“It's my ambition and responsibility to win the tenth Champions League”, the new Whites manager stated in the press room

After his presentation in the presidential box of the Santiago Bernabeu stadium, Carlo Ancelotti offered his first press conference as Real Madrid manager. The Whites' coach didn't conceal his enthusiasm to form a part of this exciting project. Accompanied by Emilio Butragueno, who revealed that the Italian is “the top person responsible for everything related with the first team”, Ancelotti stated: “Real Madrid represents a great history and tradition. I love football so coming to Real Madrid is a dream that today has come true. I hope to be here a long time. I aim to work as well as possible, to give it my best as a professional and help win important trophies in the upcoming season. It's my ambition and responsibility to achieve the tenth Champions League. Far from being a problem, it's such a big motivating factor that it can help to motivate our work”.
Referring to the role that Zinedine Zidane will have in the team, he revealed: “He'll be on the bench. The problem is that he can't play... (laughing). Zizou has been a fantastic player and he has now decided to assume the role of manager. I'm very happy to work alongside him. He will be a great assistant, apart from Paul Clement, who is my usual assistant, and Giovanni Mauri, who will be the fitness trainer”.
Concerning the team's reinforcements ahead of the upcoming season, he stated: “The squad is very good. There are many young quality academy players who provide ambition and enthusiasm. This team is very good and there may be some changes, although not many things are needed. I'll be talking with the club over the next few days to see what we need. I'm not able to tell you today which players will stay and which will go. We haven't had time to speak about this and we'll do so in the next few days”.Asked about Falcao and Isco, Ancelotti pointed out: “Falcao is a fantastic player, but we have Cristiano Ronado, Benzema and Higuain, who are terrific”. Regarding the player for Spain, he stated: “He's very talented. He's a fantastic player and the most talented player in the Spanish U-21 side. Isco could play in any team in the world, although I can't yet tell you if he's a Real Madrid player”.
He also spoke of the playing philosophy he plans to introduce in Real Madrid: “I want a team that controls play, has a good idea of attack and a good balance in midfield. We're going to play offensive football and for that you need talent. This team has it, so it won't be difficult to organise offensive football”.
Asked about the "peace-maker" title that some of the media have given him, he commented: “I've never been called a peace-maker. It's the first time, but I'm a manager that likes to always have a good relationship with the players and I've always managed to. I don't think that Real Madrid needs a peace-maker”. Regarding the pressure that exists within the team, he stated: “I don't think the pressure is greater than in other clubs. The pressure is in the manager's job. Managing it is the problem. I want to work with pressure”.
Referring to future appearances with Mourinho, his predecessor on the bench, he said:“Mourinho is a great manager who I respect. As a person, his personality is different from mine and mine from his. He has all my respect. I don't think it's right to compare me with him. Mourinho did a good job here and I'm going to try to do a good job after him. No comparison is possible. It's up to the president to judge my work. I don't want to know what's happened. It's a new beginning for the players and myself. It's the beginning of a new relationship and I think that it's going to be good and without problems”.
Ancelotti also praised Casillas and Cristiano Ronaldo. He said of the Real Madrid captain: “I know him very well. He's a fantastic and goalkeeper and this team's captain. In football there's a rule that those who deserve to, play. It stands for all players and all teams”. Of the Portuguese player he added: “He's a really marvellous player. It's an honour to coach a player like him, just as it was with Zidane. I can already say that he's on the list of the greatest players that I have coached”.
The Italian spoke of two other players. The first was Kaka: “I know him very well. I hope to see him train and then make up my mind. My view is that today Kaka is a Real Madrid player and we're going to work with him so that he gives his all to do his best as a Real Madrid player. I don't have any other intention”. Modric was the next player discussed, compared to Pirlo: “They are players with different characteristics. Modric is more dynamic and less of a midfielder. Modric needs to play all over the field and Pirlo has a more well-defined position in the midfield”.
Asked about the rivalry that he will have with Barcelona, he stated: “It's a very competitive team, but it's possible to compete well against them. They will be marvellous matches and I don't think we have to fear Barcelona. I'm confident that Real Madrid will be better”. Concerning his reasons for leaving PSG, he said: “I already explained when I announced that I was leaving the club. It's in the past and I want to give thanks for the good experience I had there. I want to wish Blanc and PSG good luck. The two teams have had a good relationship and thanks to that I'm here”.
